-Congregation for Catholic Education
It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to Nativity Catholic School, Home of the Cougars!
Nativity, a Roman Catholic School in the Diocese of St. Petersburg, serves a diverse population of students in early childhood, as well as kindergarten through eighth grade. In 1961, four Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity opened Nativity Catholic School to 95 students in grades one through six. Each year enrollment grew and by 1977, when the Sisters of Holy Cross came to Nativity, enrollment had reached an impressive 593 students. Today, our enrollment holds steady with approximately 650 students.
Nativity is fully accredited by the Florida Catholic Conference and is nationally recognized for Excellence and Innovation in Education. Our mission is to provide our students with a safe and inviting learning environment, along with a Christ-centered, rigorous academic program that allows each child to grow as a Christian role model, a life-long learner, an effective communicator, an active member of the Church, and a responsible citizen of the 21st century. We strive to fulfill this mission by making God known, loved, and served in all that we do, as well as recognizing each student as a unique child of God and providing a learning environment that develops each student’s spiritual, intellectual, social, physical and emotional gifts.
Religious education is central to what we do at Nativity, with prayer experienced daily across grade levels. We celebrate Mass together as a school community on a weekly basis. “The Catholic school loses its purpose without constant reference to the Gospel and a frequent encounter with Christ” –The Catholic School,1977, para. 55. Our school offers a rigorous academic program, which is supported by a challenging curriculum that integrates the Florida standards. Differentiated instruction is incorporated in all grade levels in order to identify and meet all students’ strengths and areas in need of growth. Additionally, our standards-based approach to teaching and learning in all subject areas allows for authentic, meaningful feedback necessary for all students to excel. Our teachers are highly qualified professionals and have a true passion for teaching that resonates in each child entrusted to their care.
Technology is an intricate part of our academic program. Teachers and students use computers and tablets throughout the school day. Our middle school is undergoing a 1:1 Microsoft Surface Tablet initiative, supporting essential skill areas, such as complex communication, new media literacy, and creativity – as well as preparing our students for high school and beyond! These devices also support collaborative learning and provide opportunities to develop personalized, student-centered learning. Our campus is fully equipped with wireless network access, SMART/MIMIO Boards, document cameras, iPads, and multimedia projectors to support this 21st century teaching and learning.
Our facility is well maintained and demonstrates good stewardship by our community. Adjacent to Nativity Catholic Church, our campus includes 30 classrooms, a newly renovated media center with soundproof music room and news studio, technology lab, science lab, administrative offices, before and after school extended day child care center, gymnasium, state-of-the-art youth center, multi-purpose room, a large playground, and a small playground for our littlest Cougars.
Financial aid and partial scholarships are available for qualifying families. Thank you for considering Nativity Catholic School as the home to prepare your children both spiritually and academically for a bright future! I invite you to call today to schedule an appointment to visit and learn more about our wonderful school!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Mr. Robert Yevich, Principal
