We are a Roman Catholic school in the Diocese of St. Petersburg, serving students in early childhood and grades Kindergarten through eight. In 1961, four Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity opened Nativity Catholic School to 95 students enrolled for grades one through six. The Nativity Catholic School community was being blessed with many new members each year. It was in 1977, the Sisters of Holy Cross came to Nativity and enrollment reached an impressive 593 students. Today, our enrollment holds steady with 700 students. The School is fully accredited by the Florida Catholic Conference and is nationally recognized for excellence and Innovations in Education.
Our mission to provide a Christ-centered, academically excellent and safe school environment in which all children can achieve their maximum God-given potential is supported by a challenging curriculum that integrates state standards with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Religious education is a priority, with prayer and worship a daily component of school life. The school is authentically Catholic, yet warmly welcomes students of all faith traditions. Teachers are highly qualified professionals and each models the belief that Christ is the reason for our school by nurturing the children in our care.
Our school wide learning expectations are that each student will be a Christian role model, a life-long learner, an effective communicator, and a responsible citizen. Nativity Catholic School students are encouraged to develop personal responsibility and contribute to the community in which they live through service to each other, their families, their parish, their school, and the community beyond school.
The use of technology is an important aspect of our educational program. Teachers and students EC through grade 8 use computers throughout the school day. Our campus is equipped with wireless network access, SMART/MIMEO Boards, document cameras, laptop carts, and multimedia projectors. Technology tools are routinely used throughout the school day to support meaningful and effective teaching and learning.
Our facilities demonstrate good stewardship by our community. Adjacent to Nativity Catholic Church, the campus includes 28 classrooms, media center, technology lab, production studio, science lab, administrative offices, a before and after school extended day child care center, a learning support center, art room, music room, a gathering courtyard, a chapel, two sets of playground equipment, gymnasium, youth center, multi-purpose room, and a large playground.
Financial aid and partial scholarships are available for qualified families and students. Current enrollment is over 700, with two classes at each grade. Our graduates attend many local high schools. After high school, many Nativity Catholic School alumni go on to graduate from prestigious colleges and universities.
Nativity Catholic School is a Christ-centered community where the traditions of our past point the direction for our students’ future.
